The Border Collie is a working and herding dog developed in the English / Scottish Border Regions for herding livestock especially sheep.

There are few dog breeds as stunning as the Border Collie. Not only are they gorgeous dogs, but they’re affectionate, lively and highly intelligent. However there are many colour and coat variations of these dogs. Before picking one I suggest you review these Border Collie colours and decide on something that you like.

 

Tri-colour Border Collies are beautiful and may be the second most popular variation. They look very much like the black and white versions, except with tan-coloured markings on the cheeks, legs, chest, bottom and sometimes eyebrows. This tri-colour effect is a recessive trait, meaning that two copies of the gene must be in the dog in order for this colour to happen. Generally, one copy of the gene must come from each parent. So if you had two tri-coloured Border Collies breed, you will only get puppies with this colouration.

 

His herding instinct is overwhelming to gather a flock, whether it is sheep, chickens, cats or anything that moves. This energy must be directed. He must have a task and is a great match for an active family.

 

He is both intelligent and obedient; when it comes to the ideal working dog it doesn’t get much better than the Border Collie.
